The Great Rice Rumble: Basmati vs The Rest

by

in

Announcer’s Voice:
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to TONIGHT’S MAIN EVENT! Live from the steel cooking pot arena! In the white corner, weighing almost nothing but acting like royalty… the so-called ‘King of Aroma’… give it up for BAS-MAAA-TIIII!”

Trumpets play, Basmati enters, leaving a trail of fragrance. He bows to the crowd dramatically.

Announcer:
“And in the red corner, the everyday champion, fluffy, humble, but dependable — SONAAA MASOOORIIIII!”

Crowd chants: “Soft! Soft! Soft!” as Sona Masoori waves shyly.

Announcer:
“Joining the rumble, the iron-fisted, tough, fiber-packed powerhouse — BROOOWNNN RICEEEEEE!”

Brown Rice flexes biceps.

Announcer:
“And don’t forget the heavy, bold, earthy, the farmer’s favorite — REEEDDD RICEEEE!”

Red Rice stomps in wearing boots made of curry leaves.

Announcer:
“And finally, the people’s everyday hero, undefeated breakfast champ — PAR-BOILED RIIIIICE!”

Parboiled does a humble namaste. Crowd goes wild.

ROUND ONE – THE BOAST

Basmati grabs the mic.
“Bow down, peasants! I am the king! People bring me out only for royal feasts and weddings. Without me, biryani is just pulao pretending to be important!”

Red Rice snatches the mic.
“Yeah? At least I don’t need a five-star hotel to feel special. I’m eaten every day by people who WORK, not just dance in sherwanis!”

Crowd goes “OOOOHHHHH!”

Brown Rice flexes,
“I may be chewy, but I keep people’s tummies happy. You? One plate and they need antacid.”

Sona Masoori shrugs,
“I’m not flashy, but who do people eat with rasam, sambar, and curd every single day? ME, baby!”

ROUND TWO – THE COOKING MATCH

The referee (a giant wooden spoon) shouts: “INTO THE POT!”

They all dive in. Steam rises. The fight begins:

  • Basmati stretches long, posing for selfies, but oops — gets stuck to the bottom of the pot! Crowd laughs.
  • Sona Masoori fluffs up perfectly, chanting, “Soft power! Soft power!”
  • Red Rice comes out chewy, punching through the boiling water like a boxer.
  • Brown Rice is slow but steady, yelling, “Fiber never dies!”
  • Parboiled quietly expands, ready for idlis, while whispering, “I’m everyone’s breakfast, don’t forget.”

The cook tastes each one like a judge. “Hmm… No clear winner.”

ROUND THREE – THE REALIZATION

Basmati gasps, “What? No clear winner? But… but I’m the king!”

The referee-spoon pats him.
“Listen, champ. You’re good for biryani. But nobody eats biryani every day. Every rice has its own glory. Together, you make the world delicious.”

The crowd chants:
“NO BOASTING! NO BOASTING! EVERY RICE IS AMAZING!”

Basmati bows. “Fine… maybe I’m not the king. Maybe… I’m just the prince of parties.”

Everyone laughs, even the onions.

Moral of the Story

Never boast about being the “king” of anything, because:

  • Even kings are useless without their people. (Imagine biryani without masalas or pulao without vegetables — boring!)
  • True greatness isn’t about being the fanciest; it’s about being useful in the right moment.
  • Just because you shine at weddings doesn’t mean you’re needed at breakfast.
  • Every grain, no matter how plain or fancy, brings flavor and value to the table.
  • Bragging makes others roll their eyes; humility makes others roll out the red carpet.

So, don’t try to be the only hero on the plate. Life, like a thali, tastes better when everyone has a place to shine.
